PHILADELPHIA – A Reeders man has filed suit against a North Carolina company over allegations the hydraulics on its trailer failed and caused two fractured ribs and other injuries.

Robert Maurer filed a complaint on March 9 in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas against Rampant Trailers LLC alleging strict liability, negligence and breach of express or implied warranties.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by JJCL Inc. on Dec. 29, 2018, and was attempting to lower hydraulic ramps on a Rampant trailer. The suit states as he was lowering the ramp, the hydraulics attached to the ramp failed, causing it to come crashing down onto the defendant and causing injuries. He alleges he sustained five fractured vertebrae, two fractured ribs, an ankle injury and a leg laceration as a result.

The plaintiff is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Daniel L. Hessel and Timothy J. Ryan of Golkow Hessel LLC in Philadelphia.

The case was moved to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by the defendant on April 4.
