PITTSBURGH – An Allegheny County woman alleges a home care service company did not perform a reasonable background check on a worker who assaulted her.

Darlene Mason filed a complaint on April 10 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas against Public Partnerships LLC, doing business as PCG Public Partnership LLC, and Desiree Allen alleging negligence, battery, assault and other counts.

According to the complaint, Public operates long-term living programs to assist seniors and adults with disabilities like the plaintiff. The suit states Allen was hired by Public as a worker and placed in the plaintiff's home in 2017 as a home care worker.

The suit states on Sept. 27, 2017, Allen "violently attacked Mason and began beating her" and criminal charges were filed. The suit states Allen pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault and received a one-year term of probation in August 2018.

The plaintiff alleges Public did not perform a reasonable background check on Allen and knew she had a "dangerous" criminal background.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Todd Jonathan Hollis in Pittsburgh.
