PHILADELPHIA – A Lincoln University woman is suing a blender manufacturer and retailer after a loose blade injured her hand.

Amanda Panichi filed a complaint on April 16 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against SharkNinja Operating LLC and Macy's Retail Holding Inc. citing personal injury.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she received a Nutri Ninja Blender Duo as a gift on Dec. 25, 2016, that was manufactured by SharkNinja. The suit states as the plaintiff's fiancé was looking at the blender, the blade was unsecured and fell out of the blender.

The plaintiff alleges she reached out to grab the item, unaware it was a blade, and the blade sliced her hand. She alleges she sustained a cut to her left ring finger, tendon laceration and other damages that resulted in her requiring medical treatment and rehab.

The plaintiff alleges the product was defective because it lacked adequate warnings and features that would make it safe for its intended use.

The plaintiff is seeking judgment of more than $75,000, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Daniel J. O'Brien and Alison Russell of White and Williams LLP in Philadelphia.
