Daughter names First Energy, Ohio Edison in suit over troubleman's death

PITTSBURGH – A Bessemer woman has filed a suit against the owners and other related entities of a bucket truck that overturned while in use by her father, causing his death.

Jamie L. Young, as administratrix of the estate of James Douglas George, deceased filed a complaint on April 29 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas against First Energy Corp., Ohio Edison Co., Altec Industries Inc., Altec Inc., et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, George worked as a Penn Power troubleman and used an Altec bucket truck owned, maintained and/or serviced by First Energy or Ohio Edison. The suit states George responded to a power outage in Wayne Township on April 30, 2017, parked the truck and extended the bucket to reach an overhead powerline. The suit states the truck began to roll down a slope, overturned and the plaintiff crashed to the ground, sustaining fatal injuries.

The plaintiff alleges the bucket truck was incapable of being used on an unlevel roadway.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Benjamin J. Baer, Robert J. Mongeluzzi and David L. Kwass of Saltz, Mongeluzzi, Barrett & Bendesky PC in Philadelphia.
