Woman files lawsuit over $215K worth of jewelry allegedly stolen from her Holiday Inn hotel room

PHILADELPHIA – A Bryn Mawr woman is suing the operator of a South Carolina hotel after jewelry valued at more than $200,000 was stolen.

Shirlyn B. Kurz filed a complaint on May 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Intercontinental Hotels Group alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, from Nov. 29 to Nov. 30, 2018, the plaintiff was a guest at the defendant's Holiday Inn in Santee, South Carolina.

The plaintiff alleges during her stay, she was a victim of theft and suffered the loss of a number of pieces of jewelry that were valued at a total of more than $215,000. The suit states the items included a gold and diamond Bulgari watch, a diamond and sapphire platinum bracelet, and other diamond jewelry.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant failed to keep her belongings safe from theft.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Jack Larkin of Gawthrop Greenwood PC in West Chester.
