BALLARD SPAHR LLP: Harry Weiss Honored By Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education

Award

Ballard Spahr, LLP issued the following announcement on May 24.

Harry Weiss, Practice Leader of Ballard Spahr's Environment and Natural Resources Group, was recently honored by the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education with the Henry Meigs Award for outstanding environmental leadership.

Established in 2006, the award honors an individual whose environmental work leaves a positive and lasting effect on the community and region. Mr. Weiss served as a Center trustee for seven years starting in 2000, and as Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2005 to 2007. As a trustee, he helped establish the protected, living collection of native plant species known as Penn's Native Acres. He also worked to secure the Center’s property under a conservation easement.

The Center is one of the nation's first urban environmental education centers, with 340 acres of fields, forests, ponds, and streams in northwest Philadelphia. The organization works to provide nature-based education to local students, preserve and restore urban green space, and care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.

"It was an honor to be was recognized at this year's Enchanted Forest Fundraiser—especially to be surrounded by my family, friends, and colleagues who have supported me and my work with the Center for nearly 20 years," said Mr. Weiss.

Mr. Weiss has dedicated his nearly 30 years of legal practice to environmental work. He counsels clients on compliance matters arising from federal and state regulations; assists them with commenting on new regulatory initiatives; and litigates on their behalf in state and federal court.
