SCRANTON – A Kingston woman is suing her employer, alleging that she was discriminated against due to her age and disability.

Sara Pisarz filed a complaint on May 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Jewish Community Alliance of Northeastern Pennsylvania citing the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was hired by the defendant in 2000 as director of its preschool program and assistant director of its summer camp.

The suit states the plaintiff was diagnosed with stomach cancer on Sept. 29, 2017, and had surgery on April 18, 2018.

The plaintiff alleges she was issued a two-day, unpaid suspension on July 5, 2018, regarding an issue with a minor camper she alleges she took to the camp director and was resolved without issue. She alleges the reason for the suspension was pretextual because of her disability.

The plaintiff's camp responsibilities were removed in August 2018 for no reason, the suit states, and she was given a new position of fundraiser.

The plaintiff alleges she asked if she could work from home, but the defendant denied the request.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Kimberly D. Borland of Borland & Borland LLP in Wilkes-Barre.
