Sherwin-Williams is suing PPG Industries, alleging patent infringement

PITTSBURGH – A manufacturer of paints and related products alleges one of its competitors' powder coating products is infringing a patent.

The Sherwin-Williams Co. filed a complaint on June 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against PPG Industries Inc. alleging patent infringement.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was issued a patent in 2017 titled "Two-Coat Single Cure Powder Coating" and is its owner. The suit states the plaintiff's Valde ECP product is related to the patent. The plaintiff alleges the defendant's Envirocron products infringes its patent.

The plaintiff is seeking all reasonable sums due, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by Gerald J. Schirato Jr. of Duane Morris in Pittsburgh.
