Montgomery County psychiatrist doled out improper opioid prescriptions, feds say

Federal Court
File000170538321

PHILADELPHIA – A Montgomery County psychiatrist allegedly prescribed opioids without a medical purpose, the federal government claims.

United States of America filed a complaint on Aug. 7 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Dr. Elizabeth N. Kuh alleging unlawful distributing and dispensing of controlled substances and other counts.

According to the complaint, Kuh allegedly prescribed a married couple OxyContin and other controlled substances through the mail without an in-person physical examination, drug screens or diagnostic testing. The plaintiff alleges the "improper prescribing continued for years" and the opioid prescription lacked a "legitimate medical purpose." The plaintiff also alleges it resulted in false Medicare claims.

The plaintiff is seeking civil penalties, injunctive relief and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by U.S. attorneys with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia.
