Client alleges Sommer Law Group breached agreement in insurance claim dispute

State Court
Allegheny

PITTSBURGH – A Ross Township woman is suing a law firm alleging that it breached their agreement after she hired it for representation for an insurance claim.

Patricia Ellis filed a complaint Sept. 12 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas against Brad N. Sommer and the Sommer Law Group PC alleging breach of contract.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff's residence was destroyed by a fire on Jan. 2, 2018, and was insured by State Farm Mutual and Casualty Co. The plaintiff alleges she entered into a legal services agreement with the defendants following the fire in pursuit of payment of fire loss against State Farm.

The defendants took a cut of $8,000 payable to Highland Development Firm LLC to raze the plaintiff's former residence. The plaintiff alleges she did not utilize Highland Development Firm for the purpose of razing the property and demanded the balance back, but the defendants have failed to do so.

The plaintiff also alleges the defendants took a 20 percent contingency fee on money never collected.

The plaintiff is seeking $15,441.92, attorney fees and court costs. The plaintiff is represented by John E. Quinn of Quinn Logue LLC in Pittsburgh.
