Jones Day issued the following announcement on Jan. 8.
The global law firm Jones Day announces that Rebekah "Becky" Kcehowski has been appointed Partner-in-Charge of its Pittsburgh Office, effective January 1, 2020. Ms. Kcehowski, a partner in the Firm's Business & Tort Litigation Practice, has been a litigator in the Pittsburgh Office since 2003. She succeeds Leon "Lee" F. DeJulius Jr., recently named Partner-in-Charge of Jones Day's New York Office. John Goetz, also a Business & Tort Litigation Practice partner, will become the Pittsburgh Office Administrative Partner, succeeding Ms. Kcehowski in that role.
A commercial litigator with more than 17 years of experience in state and federal courts across the country, as well as international tribunals, Ms. Kcehowski has a track record of success as trial counsel in high-risk bet-the-company class actions, multidistrict litigation, and cross-jurisdiction coordinated proceedings. She is an active writer and speaker on class action issues and is recognized for her creativity and tenacity. Ms. Kcehowski has spent nearly her entire career at Jones Day, starting at the Firm as a summer associate while attending the University of Virginia School of Law, and joining the Firm as a litigation associate in 2003 after a clerkship with the Hon. Beverly B. Martin, then-of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
"Becky is recognized as a leading litigator on class actions and consumer contracts and exemplifies the Firm’s next generation of leaders," said Stephen J. Brogan, Managing Partner of Jones Day. "With her knowledge of and commitment to the Firm and its clients, and successful service in a variety of leadership positions in Pittsburgh, she is well-equipped to take over responsibility from Lee and continue our growth in a region that is evolving and thriving in the new economy. With our great lawyers and leaders throughout the Midwest, and our formidable talents in Pittsburgh, we remain strong up the middle of the U.S. industrial heartland as we move forward into the new decade."
In addition to her prior role as the office Administrative Partner, Ms. Kcehowski has also served as the Pittsburgh Office Hiring Partner and Billings and Collections Partner. She also led the office associate development program, mentoring new and up-and-coming associates. Ms. Kcehowski is active in the community, coordinating the Pro Se Pro Bono ADR Program for the Western District of Pennsylvania and serving on the boards of directors for the Pittsburgh Public Theater, Junior Achievement of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
"I am grateful for the trust our clients place in us and look forward to building on our commitment to provide the very best in legal services, both locally and globally, as Pittsburgh continues its significant public and private expansion in sectors such as technology and innovation, medicine, education, energy, and manufacturing," said Ms. Kcehowski. "Having just celebrated our 30th year in Pittsburgh, it’s an honor to succeed three remarkable leaders – Paul "Mickey" Pohl, Laura E. Ellsworth, and Lee – who not only established an excellent legacy of leadership, but also a phenomenal team of lawyers in Pittsburgh over the last three decades."
Mr. Goetz, the new Administrative Partner in Pittsburgh, focuses his practice on product liability and commercial litigation. He leads Jones Day’s worldwide Airlines and Aviation Industry work, representing clients globally in aircraft accident litigation, NTSB investigations, and aircraft finance matters. Mr. Goetz has been recognized by Chambers in aviation litigation, and as a leading lawyer in transportation and aviation law by Legal 500 and Best Lawyers in America.
