Games company says law firm dropped it like a 'hot potato' to represent casino

SCRANTON – A manufacturer of electronic casino games claims in a federal lawsuit says that its law firm ended its representation and instead aligned itself with a casino.

Law firm Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott for years provided legal advice to Pace-O-Matic Inc. on the marketing of its electronic skills games, according to the suit. The company shared “highly confidential” information with the firm on the design, development and operation of the games, according the complaint.

Recently, the firm began representing Parx Casino outside Philadelphia, which has argued that Pace-O-Matic’s games are illegal slot machines and not games of skill, the suit said.

When Pace-O-Matic complained about the conflict, Eckert Seaman dropped Pace-O-Matic like the “proverbial hot potato” in favor of the more lucrative contact with Parx, the complaint alleges.

The suit filed Feb. 18 seeks a court order barring Eckert Seaman from representing Parx in cases against Pace-O-Matic.
