Penn State hit with lawsuit over coronavirus closing

Federal Court

HARRISBURG – Penn State University is now one of the many institutions of higher learning to be sued over its coronavirus closing.

Tyler Thomson filed a class action lawsuit April 30 against the school, alleging it has failed to provide reimbursement for tuition, fees and other costs.

He is represented by Stuart Carpey in Plymouth Meeting, as well as Anastopoulo Law Firm of Charleston, S.C.

Dozens of similar lawsuits have popped up around the country since schools were forced to abandon in-person teaching as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lawsuit makes claims of breach of contract and unjust enrichment. It says the “true college experience” has been diminished, so tuition should be too.

U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania case number 4:20-cv-00725
