Greenberg Traurig LLP issued the following announcement on Nov. 16.
Jessica Natali, a White Collar Defense & Special Investigations shareholder in global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP’s Philadelphia office, lead a panel at the 2020 White Collar Practice Seminar, presented virtually by the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers on Nov. 20.
Natali moderate the panel “Hot Topics in Healthcare Fraud and FCA Enforcement,” set to provide an overview of enforcement activity and trends since 2019, particularly post-COVID-19. The panel also tackle a range of topics and case law developments – from how courts continue to interpret the False Claims Act (FCA) materiality and scienter requirements post-Escobar to implications of legislation to potentially limit the U.S. Department of Justice’s dismissal power in FCA cases.
Natali, who specializes in federal and state grand jury investigations, has deep experience in both prosecuting and defending a wide range of criminal and civil health care fraud and opioid cases involving doctors, pharmacists, and health care entities. As such, she served as one of the planners for this annual two-day seminar.
Among her representations, Natali often assists large medical device manufacturers, physician practices, and individuals from pharmaceutical companies in investigations regarding violations of HIPPA, Medicaid/Medicare billing, the Stark Law, False Claims Act, and Anti-Kickback Statute, among others.
“There are a lot of important issues for us to cover in this 90-minute session, but we look forward to delving into recent developments in the law that likely impact business practices in the near future and beyond,” Natali said. “These are critical considerations for white-collar lawyers, and we expect attendees to walk away with new learning.”
Virginia Gibson and Kirsten Mayer, white-collar partners at Hogan Lovells and Ropes & Gray LLP, respectively, complete the CLE-bearing panel, which starts at 10:45 a.m.
Beyond healthcare matters, Natali represents corporations, high level banking executives, and public officials investigated for a variety of allegations, including public corruption, campaign finance violations, fraud, theft, sexual misconduct, defense of qui tam/False Claims Act complaints and products liability and more. She also helps clients constructing and implementing compliance policies and procedures that effectively align with Department of Justice guidelines.
A member of the Philadelphia chapter of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association, Natali previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for 11 years.
