ARMSTRONG TEASDALE LLP: White-Collar Litigators Join Armstrong Teasdale in Philadelphia

Armstrong Teasdale LLP issued the following announcement on Jan. 20.

Armstrong Teasdale announces the addition of Partners Michael Engle and Ashley Shapiro to its Philadelphia office. Engle and Shapiro have decades of experience in complex criminal litigation. They join more than 300 attorneys at the firm nationwide.

“Michael and Ashley are fantastic additions to our already strong white-collar criminal defense practice on the East Coast,” said Managing Partner David Braswell. “We have built a real powerhouse in this area over the past couple of years, and that growth has enabled us to successfully take on a number of new, significant representations across the country. Engle is a skilled trial lawyer with more than 20 years of experience handling complex criminal cases, internal investigations and compliance matters. He also handles civil litigation matters, often involving the defense of False Claims Act or qui tam actions. Engle’s clients rely on his sound judgment as they face complex allegations, and appreciate his ability to provide individualized attention and consistent communication.

A Fellow of the esteemed American College of Trial Lawyers, Engle regularly represents individuals, public officials and professionals, public and private companies of all sizes, nonprofits and other organizations in federal and state courts primarily on the East Coast, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C. His representations often involve parallel criminal, civil or regulatory proceedings or investigations. He also routinely represents clients in connection with grand jury subpoenas and civil investigative demands.

Shapiro has more than a decade of experience defending clients in criminal litigation, internal investigations and corporate compliance matters. A strong advocate and trial lawyer, she has experience at both the state and federal levels across many jurisdictions, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. She has also presented numerous appeals to the Third Circuit.  

Shapiro represents individuals and corporations in regulatory investigations and grand jury proceedings often involving securities and financial matters. Her representations also extend to the energy, health care and life sciences, and higher education sectors. Further, she is well versed in handling administrative proceedings, such as Title IX investigations and matters related to student conduct.
