N.J. woman sues Woodloch Pines Resort after seesaw accident

Federal Court

Woodloch Pines

PHILADELPHIA — A New Jersey woman has filed a lawsuit against a Hawley resort and its employees after she claimed she was injured during a team-building exercise.

Erin Hazen, of Morristown, filed the suit against Woodloch Pines Resort, Robert Filarsky, the resort's assistant social director, and Eric Ranner, the corporate meeting coordinator, in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on Jan. 22. Hazen claimed the defendants were negligent in their dangerous team-building activities, failure to properly train employees and failure to inspect and perform maintenance on equipment.

The allegations stemmed from an incident in June of 2019 when Hazen was a business invitee at Woodloch resort. Hazen claimed Ranner organized a team-building activity during which Hazen and many others stood on a seesaw, with other people being added to the equipment until it became unbalanced. Hazen said it caused her to fall off of it and crushed her left ankle, which resulted in broken bones and damages to her nerves.

She said her injuries caused her physical and emotional pain and is seeking more than $150,000 in damages from each defendant named in the lawsuit.
