Buchanan Ingersoll Rooney PC issued the following announcement on Feb. 9.

Lloyd Freeman, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, is the 2021 recipient of the Albert S. Dandridge, III Business Law Section Diversity Award presented by the Business Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association. The award is given annually to publicly acknowledge, recognize and honor an individual that has demonstrated a strong commitment, and has made a substantial contribution in the Philadelphia area and to diversity, and promotes full and equal participation and inclusion in the legal profession. Freeman will be honored during a virtual ceremony on February 11, 2021.

“Lloyd’s efforts throughout his career embody this award and it is truly an honor to recognize him this year,” said Ernest Holtzheimer, incoming 2021 Chairman of the Philadelphia Bar Association Business Law Section.

As a recipient of this award, Freeman is given the opportunity to make a $2,500 donation to an entity that embodies the Business Law Section’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Freeman, as well as Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney will match the donation for a total of $7,500 to be given to Drexel University, Thomas Kline School of Law – where Freeman is a member of the Board and also professor of electronic discovery and digital evidence. Specifically, the funds will be earmarked for the law school’s partnership with Spelman College which aims to increase the number of students of color entering the legal profession. The full donation will be used as a scholarship for those students of color.

“As an HBCU graduate and a member of Drexel Law School’s board, I’m extremely supportive of this initiative which aims to increase diversity in the legal profession and Philadelphia. Thank you to the Philadelphia Bar Association for this award and the opportunity to help three students of color to receive scholarships to attend law school at Drexel,” said Freeman.
