HARRISBURG - Penn State University faces charges in federal court from a Florida man who says he was wrongfully terminated as a university employee, according to documents filed on March 1.

Plaintiff Henry T. Bream, III was hired as the Director of Athletic Training Services and Head Athletic Trainer for varsity football at the university in 2012. Bream signed a five-year contract with the defendant set to expire in June 2017.

During his tenure at the university, Bream says his employment was nothing but positive. He was offered a salary increase two years into his employment and was promoted in March 2015 to Assistant Athletic Director in Sports Medicine Support Services.

According to the lawsuit, Bream was told by his superior, Senior Associate Athletic Director Charmelle Green, that the employment contract would be renewed about a month before its expiry.

The contract ended and plaintiff continued to work for the university until February 2018 due to being told that the contract would renew.

On February 6, 2018, the plaintiff's employment was terminated; Bream says that the decision was unjustified and that no action by him was ever a cause for the termination.

The university is sued for one count of breach of contract and one count of promissory estoppel. Bream is requesting his employment agreement be reinstated in addition to compensatory damages.

Bream is represented by Marino Associates of Philadelphia.
