PHILADELPHIA - A York woman is suing Bob’s Discount Furniture based on allegations of carelessness and negligence in relation to a chair she purchased from the story that she alleges was broken and improperly repaired.

The suit was filed in February in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas by attorney Adam E. Grutzmacher on behalf of plaintiff Ronica Chambers in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas. The defendant has since removed the case to federal court.

The suit alleges that Bob’s Discount Furniture knowingly sold a chair to Chambers in February 2019 that had been previously broken, and that the chair had been improperly repaired, leading to a “dangerous and defective condition.

Allegedly, the chair broke again on the same day that Chambers purchased it, resulting in Chambers falling to the ground and becoming injured, according to the suit.

Chambers alleges that she suffered multiple injuries in the fall, including a left posterior heel spur, left Achilles tendinosis, foot injury requiring surgery and leaving scarring and discoloration, and musculoskeletal injuries. The suit also alludes to “other injuries as may be diagnosed by plaintiff’s health care providers.”

The suit also alleges medical costs related to the fall as well as loss of earnings, in addition to “severe physical pain, mental anguish and humiliation.”

Chambers is seeking damages in excess of arbitration limits, plus interest and costs.
