West Chester man suing storage company over fall due to stack of chair mats

State Court

MEDIA - Public Storage Mid-Atlantic is facing a liability lawsuit involving a Chester County man who alleges negligence on the part of the company related to his slipping on a stack of plastic chair mats on their premises.

Attorney Joseph P. Nastasi filed the suit April 5 in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas on behalf of Scott Scheier of West Chester, according to court documents.

The suit alleges that Scheier was on the premises last November while visiting a storage unit that his business rents. While walking through the storage facility where the unit was located, Scheier alleges that he stepped on a stack of plastic chair mats, slipped and fell.

The suit alleges that Scheier sustained injuries to his head, right elbow and right hand as a result of the fall. Additionally, it alleges that Scheier was free from negligence at all times, and that Public Storage Mid-Atlantic bore responsibility for ensuring the plastic chair mats were not left in a manner that presented a danger of anyone slipping on them.

It is also alleged that the chair mats in question were placed in such a manner that Scheier could not navigate the hallway to his storage unit without stepping on them.

Scheier has requested a jury trial and is seeking in excess of $50,000 in damages as well as court costs and interest.
