PHILADELPHIA - A Laureldale woman sued in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas after she says a hair dryer spontaneously combusted and caused serious burns.

Plaintiff Michele Sauppe-Snyder purchased a Tyche Turbo Jet Ionic 3000 model hair dryer manufactured by defendant Proxima Inc. and distributed by defendant Bell'Angelo/KYCE International Inc. in July of 2020 from Amazon. On July 19, she was using the dryer with the included comb-style attachment.

The plaintiff says the dryer suddenly began emitting flames from the nozzle, setting fire to her hair and shirt.

Sauppe-Snyder suffered multiple first- and second-degree burns to the right ear, cheek, face, neck and chest, according to the complaint.

The defendants are sued for negligence, strict liability, breach of warranties and loss of consortium.

The case was removed to federal court on April 28.

The plaintiff is represented by Galfand Berger LLP of Philadelphia.
