MEDIA - A Havertown man wants payback from AFC Urgent Care Havertown for alleged medical negligence that caused a stroke.

The complaint was filed by plaintiff Alfred Mile on April 23 in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas. Mile is diabetic and chronically hypertensive, regularly taking three blood pressure medications, the suit says.

On May 5, 2019, Mile visited defendant Dr. Rajesh Patel at the Urgent Care center for dizziness and pain behind his ear as well as high blood pressure. He was diagnosed with an ear infection and other sinus conditions and as prescribed pseudoephedrine, a medication that increases blood pressure and is not recommended for hypertensive patients, the suit says.

After being sent home, Mile says he had to call 911 late the same day because his symptoms had worsened and he could not stand. He was taken to the hospital and was told that he had suffered a stroke as a direct result of the defendants' negligence and the inappropriate medication prescribed, the suit claims.

Mile requests at least $50,000 in damages for the defendants' medical negligence.

The plaintiff is represented by the Law Office of John Neumann Hickey of Media.
