H

Steptoe & Johnson PLLC issued the following announcement on May 10.

Kevin L. Barley has joined Steptoe & Johnson’s Litigation Department as Of Counsel, where he will focus his practice on energy and business litigation.  Barley’s extensive experience includes representing construction, energy, manufacturing, and service industry clients in a variety of matters in and out of the courtroom.  He has practiced with law firms in and around Pittsburgh for more than two decades.

“Kevin is no stranger to high profile cases that can affect an entire industry,” said Steptoe & Johnson CEO Christopher L. Slaughter.  “He knows that much can be at stake when an issue results in litigation, so he approaches each matter with the utmost attentiveness and skill.  His knowledge of Pennsylvania energy and environmental law make him a sought-after resource and I am excited to welcome him to our team.”

Barley represents clients involved in complex commercial litigation, including state and federal claims and administrative proceedings.  He is skilled at collaborating with technical experts to capitalize on their testimony and bring about positive results for his clients. He also represents oil and gas operators in administrative permitting and enforcement matters.  Barley delivered oral arguments to the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania in a landmark case, ultimately decided by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, involving the interpretation of the Environmental Rights Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution.

In addition to his litigation practice, Barley assists clients with a wide range of transactional matters, including contract counseling, due diligence, risk mitigation, lease negotiation, and real estate conveyancing.

He earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Susquehanna University.
