PITTSBURGH — A woman alleges defective tea candles, a warmer and scented wax which she purchased at a Dollar General suddenly engulfed in flames and caused her to suffer severe burns.

Sheryl Colamarino and Bruce Colamarino filed a complaint in April in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Dolgencorp LLC doing business as Dollar General alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, Sheryl Colamarino purchased a ceramic wax warmer, tea light candles and scented wax from the Dollar General Store in Allegheny County. The plaintiffs alleged that on May 7, 2020, she placed the wax on the top of the warmer, lit the tea candle and placed the warmer on a bedroom dresser.

The plaintiffs further allege that when Colamarino came out of her closet, the products were "engulfed in flames" which caused her to suffer "severe burn injuries" to her hands and require medical treatment including surgery. The plaintiffs claim Dollar General was negligent for selling the defective products, failing to warn of the dangers of the products and failing to properly test the products prior to selling.

Colamarino seeks monetary and all other just relief. She is represented by Jason Schiffman of The Schiffman Firm LLC in Pittsburgh.
