PHILADELPHIA — A Pennsylvania woman is claiming negligence after her Los Angeles hotel room doorknob allegedly detached and caused her to fall backwards and suffer injuries.

Crystal Miller filed a complaint May 14 in the Court of Common Pleas for Philadelphia County against Park Hotel & Resorts Inc., formerly known as Hilton Hotel Corporation t/a doing business as Hilton Los Angeles Airport. Miller is a Pennsylvania resident who says she sued in that state's court system because Hilton Los Angeles Airport regularly conducts business there.

Miller was a guest at the defendants' hotel on July 25, 2020, according to her suit. She alleges that as she was entering her room, the doorknob handle became detached and caused her to stumble backwards and fall.

Miller claims she suffered severe injuries including a tear disc herniation and suffers from headaches and dizziness as a result of her injuries. She alleges the defendants were negligent for failing to properly install, secure and test the doorknob handle or provide her with a warning about the dangerous condition. Miller further alleges the defendants failed to comply with building codes and county and city laws and regulations regarding the design, construction and maintenance of the hotel.

Miller seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Michael Cancelliere, Jr., of Nass Cancellierre in Philadelphia.

The defendants have removed the case to Philadelphia federal court.
