PITTSBURGH — A bicyclist is suing Allegheny County after he says his bike hit a sunken manhole cover on the surface of the roadway and caused him to be flipped off and suffer multiple injuries.

Greg Zamule filed a complaint recently in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Allegheny County alleging negligence.

According to Zamule's suit, he was riding his bicycle in South Park on McConkey Road near the intersection with Corrigian Drive on July 2, 2019. He alleges that his bike hit a manhole cover that had sunken "deep into the asphalt surface of the roadway" which caused his bike to flip over.

Zamule claims he was thrown from the bike and onto the asphalt and suffered "road rash" on his face, shoulder, elbow and hip as well as sprains and damage to his bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves. He further claims he has incurred medical treatment expenses in excess of $1,500.

Zakule claims his accident was the result of the defendant's asphalting the road surface in a way that caused the manhole cover to be sunk into the roadway surface and that Allegheny County failed to repair or correct the dangerous condition or provide warning of the hazard.

Zamule seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Richard Joyce of Joyce & Bittner in Pittsburgh.
