PITTSBURGH — A mother is claiming her daughter was injured by a razor sharp edge on a stool purchased at Ross Dress For Less.

J.D., a minor by and through her parent and natural guardian Cindy DeGori and Cindy DeGori, in her own right, filed a complaint July 27 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Ross Dress for Less Inc., Ross Stores Inc., and Ross Stores Pennsylvania alleging negligence and other claims.

DeGori purchased a stool at Ross Dress For Less on Settlers Ridge Center in Pittsburgh on June 20, 2019, according to the complaint. The plaintiffs allege that on Dec. 15, 2019, J.D., "placed the stool down" when her achilles tendon and heel were "severely and deeply lacerated" by a "razor sharp" metal band that was wrapped around the bottom of the stool and suffered serious injuries.

They claim the defendants' negligence for its design and manufacturing of the stool with sharp metal edges, failing to have a proper design for the stool and failing to warn of the sharp edge. The plaintiffs also claim the defendants failed to assure the stools they manufactured and sold utilized proper materials.

The plaintiffs seek monetary and all other just relief. They are represented by Carl Schiffman and Benjamin Wilt of The Schiffman Firm LLC in Pittsburgh.
