Man accuses Whitehall Township police of using excessive force during traffic stop

PHILADELPHIA — A man whose car was previously reported stolen and then recovered alleges Whitehall Township police officers used excessive force against him during a traffic stop.

Amgad Ahmed filed a complaint Sept. 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Joseph Remmel, James Lucas and Whitehall Township alleging use of excessive force and liability.

According to his complaint, Ahmed owned a 2014 Lincoln that was stolen on Aug. 1, 2019 in the City of Allentown. He alleges that he reported the theft to Allentown Police and that the car was recovered on Aug. 3, 2019. Ahmed claims that while driving the car on Sept. 19, 2019, on Route 22 near MacArthur Road, he was pulled over with several police vehicles arriving on the scene and officers with guns drawn.

He alleges he was handcuffed, pinned to the ground and left detained on the roadside despite showing ID and "beyond any doubt" that he was the owner of the car and in compliance. Amhed claims he was then released from the handcuffs and told his vehicle had been showing up as stolen. He further claims the defendants illegally used "deadly" force against him with no justification.

Ahmed seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney Richard Orloski of The Orloski Law Firm in Allentown.
