PITTSBURGH — A soccer player who was injured by sharp fencing at a school game in Marshall Township is alleging negligence.

A minor by her parents and guardians, Stephen Colafella and Holly Colafella and Stephen Colafella and Holly Colafella individually filed a complaint Aug. 5 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against North Allegheny School District, Marshall Township and Blessed Francis Seelos Academy alleging negligence.

Francis Seelos Academy was sponsoring a soccer tournament on June 1, 2019, at the soccer fields at Marshall Elementary School on Avila Court in Pittsburgh, according to the Colafellas' complaint. They claim the minor plaintiff kicked the soccer ball over the fencing surrounding the utility services and when she went to retrieve the ball, her left hand got caught on the top edge of the wire fencing.

The plaintiffs allege the minor plaintiff suffered injury to her middle finger which caused nerve damage, scarring, bruises and loss of range of motion in the finger and required surgery. The plaintiffs further allege the defendants failed to properly inspect the fencing and warn of the dangerous condition.

The Colafellas seek monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Kenneth Fawcett of Bowers Fawcett & Hurst LLC in Ambridge.
