Hospital

PHILADEPHIA — A former patient of an extended care facility claims lack of fall prevention procedures caused her to fall and suffer a traumatic brain injury.

Maria R. Barbalinardo file a complaint Sept. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Saber Healthcare Holdings LLC and Bryn Mawr Healthcare Group LLC.

According to her complaint, Barbalinardo, who was 88 years old at the time, was a patient at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and was transferred to the care center on Nov. 8, 2020. She claims she has a history of falls and was a known fall risk and within hours of admission, was left unattended.

Barbalinardo alleges she fell and suffered a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, wrist fracture, disfigurement and incurred medical treatment expenses. She further alleges the defendants failed to do a fall risk assessment and did not have adequate procedures in place to prevent falls.

Barbalinardo seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by John Hickey.
