Worker who suffered electrical shock on job site claims negligence

State Court
Lawsuit

PITTSBURGH — A worker who suffered electrical shock at a job site in Washington is claiming he was falsely told the electrical lines had de-energized.

Matthew Gardner filed a complaint Sept. 17 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Dan Ryan Builders Inc., DRB Enterprises LLC doing business as DRB Group, West Penn Power Company and others alleging negligence.

Gardner was at the Arden Farms development/construction site on Hawthorne Drive in Washington on Oct. 18, 2019, in order to disconnect the utilities from a condo unit and service lines that flowed within the property, according to his complaint.

He claims that while using a reciprocating saw to sever and disconnect the main electrical lines to the condominium units, he suffered electrical shock to his hands, arms, body and nervous system when the saw hit a live energized wire.

Gardner further claims the defendants' negligence for failing to de-energize the main electrical power supply to the property prior to his working on the lines. He alleges the defendants also to failed pre-inspect or test to ensure the power supply was off to the building and falsely informed him the main electrical power supply had never been energized.

Gardner seeks monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by David McGowan of Caroselli Beachler & Coleman LLC in Pittsburgh.
