Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin issued the following announcement on Oct. 21.

Matthew P. Keris, shareholder in Marshall Dennehey's Scranton office, has been appointed President of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Foundation, the charitable arm of the defense litigation organization. Mr. Keris has previously served as Atlantic Regional Director of the DRI, as well as its Pennsylvania State Representative and Membership Chair.

The DRI Foundation is committed to supporting DRI members, their communities and the cities where the organization holds seminars and educational events. Proceeds raised by the DRI Foundation go directly to funding and fostering initiatives that make a difference, including  community service, member attorney support programs, disaster recovery, support for the judicial system, and diversity programming and initiatives.

“I am very excited about Matt’s leadership of the Foundation,” said Dean Martinez, CEO of the DRI. “With this new arm of DRI, we have a unique opportunity to serve both the civil defense bar and the communities in which we live and work, and Matt has the vision to take the altruism of DRI to the next level.”

A member of Marshall Dennehey's Health Care Department, Mr. Keris chairs the firm’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Audit Trail Practice Group. He represents physicians, medical groups and health care institutions in EMR litigation and a variety of health care liability matters. In addition to his defense practice, he lectures nationally on litigation issues pertaining to the use of electronic medical records and is the author of the book, Electronic Medical Records and Litigation, published by Thomson Reuters.

He is a past president of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute and the Pennsylvania Association for Health Care Risk Management, and a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. A graduate of Shippensburg University and Roger Williams University School of Law, he is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New York.
