Lawsuit: Man suffers burns on feet due to defective heating element in sauna

Federal Court
Lawsuit

PITTSBURGH — A man is suing the manufacturer of a sauna booth after suffering severe burns on his feet.

Alphonso Muhammad filed a complaint Nov. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Relax Saunas of Momentum Inc., and others alleging negligence and other claims.

Muhammad, according to is complaint, was using an infrared Himalayan salt cave sauna booth at Full Body wellness store on Nov. 29, 2019. He claims the booth, manufactured by the defendants, has a heating element which is turned on when the booth is zipped shut.

Muhammad claims even though his shoes were on while using the sauna booth, extreme heat came onto the tops of his feet and caused him to suffer burns. He further claims the blisters and burns became so bad that he required care at a wound care center and still continues to suffer from the effects of the burns. Muhammad alleges the defendants are liable for the defective condition of the booth and failed to warn of the "dangerous nature" of the sauna booth. He also alleges the defendants failed to properly test the sauna booth or provide protective devices or a safety feature on the booth.

Muhammad seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Mark Troyan of Robert Peirce & Associates PC in Pittsburgh.
