MEDIA — A worker at an oil refinery who was sprayed with hot diesel oil when a rubber hose broke free has filed a lawsuit.

Michael Watson and Beverly Williams filed a complaint Dec. 1 in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County against HBD industries Inc., HJBD/Thermoid Inc., Continental Industries and The Novaflex Group alleging negligence and other claims.

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, on Dec. 27, 2019, Watson was working at the Trainer Refinery on Post Road in Marcus Hook that is owned by Monroe Energy. The plaintiffs claim as Watson was using a hose to hose down the interior of an oil tank with hot diesel oil, the rubber hose suddenly became disconnected, broke free from its metal collar and sprayed hot diesel oil onto his leg.

They allege that as a result of the accident, Watson suffered severe, debilitating and disfiguring injuries. The plaintiffs claim HBD Industries' negligence for failing to properly and safely design and manufacture the hose. They also claim the defendants' negligence for failing to test the hose and securely attach and connect the metal collar.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Jeffrey Zimmerman and Jeffrey Schmidt of Rovner, Allen, Rovner, Zimmerman, Sigman & Schmidt in Feasterville.
