Fox Rothschild LLP congratulates Robert W. Gundlach Jr. and Catherine B. Mitchell, who were honored in the 2021 Lawyers in Real Estate Awards by Connect CRE.*

This award recognizes real estate attorneys nationwide for excelling in their practice and making notable contributions to their communities. Gundlach and Mitchell were named in the National and Atlanta & Southeast categories, respectively.

Gundlach, who serves as Co-Chair of Fox’s Real Estate Department and Zoning & Land Use Practice, is a national authority on real estate law who handles the full range of transactional and zoning/land use matters. He represents clients in transactions including agreements of sale, leasing for landlords and tenants as well as financing for both lenders and borrowers. In his zoning/land use work, Gundlach represents developers, builders and property owners in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He also frequently handles real estate litigation involving zoning and land use appeals and related litigation, landlord/tenant disputes, mortgage foreclosures, tax assessment appeals and condemnation, dedications under the Municipalities Planning Code, preliminary injunctions and other emergency actions.

In addition to his industry influence on a national scale, Gundlach is a frequent lecturer and author on real estate subjects in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including annual updates on zoning and land use cases and legislation. He is the organizer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s preeminent biannual Land Use Institute program and has served as a board member on the Bucks County Planning Commission and Bucks County’s Open Space Task Force. Gundlach has served on the board of the Home Builders Association for many years and has also been an active member of several nonprofit organizations in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs.

Mitchell is a partner in the firm’s Real Estate Department who advises clients in the acquisition, disposition and leasing of commercial properties and assists lenders in real estate financing. Her skills span the development process, including acquisition, reciprocal easements, construction and an array of financing, including SBA loans, bond financing, USDA-backed loans and complex CMBS. She represents commercial landlords in the leasing of retail and office space to national and regional tenants as well as health care companies, national and regional banking institutions and life insurance companies.

Beyond her work with clients, Mitchell is dedicated to improving her community. In 2020, she was appointed by the North Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore to the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, which encourages academically talented students to become state, national and global leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. She has also represented the Preservation Society of Asheville and Buncombe County on a pro bono basis and is active in the Charlotte chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network, which offers professional and personal advancement opportunities to women in the community.
