Lawsuit: Man's hand lacerated in F150 as he tried to catch spider

State Court
2014f150

PITTSBURGH — A Butler auto dealership and Ford Motor Company are facing a lawsuit after a man allegedly suffered a severe laceration from a sharp metal edge on the frame of an F150 seat.

Edward R. Auth and Stacey S. Auth filed a complaint Dec. 9 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Diehl Automotive Group Inc., and Ford Motor Company alleging

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, the Auths purchased a 2014 Ford F150 from Diehl Automotive on March 30, 2018. They allege that on Sept. 11, 2020, as Edward Auth was leaving his job site as a sheet metal worker near the Hot Metal Bridge in Allegheny County, he noticed a spider crawling between the driver's seat and the center console of the truck.

The plaintiffs further allege that Auth leaned across the driver's seat and reached his right hand in between the driver's seat and the console to remove the spider when his hand was lacerated by a "sharp, exposed" metal edge. They claim Auth suffered a severe laceration to the base of his thumb which required "complex" surgical repair. The plaintiffs claim Diehl failed to ensure the truck was in a safe condition and that Ford failed to implement quality control procedures or remedy the sharp seat frame before distributing the vehicle.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Margaret Cooney and Brendan Lupetin of Lupetin & Unatin LLC in Pittsburgh.
