PHILADELPHIA — A Riverside Correctional Facility inmate alleges he was beaten unconscious by officers.

Jose Gonzalez filed a complaint Jan. 5 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against City of Philadelphia and correctional officers Terrell Felts, Jean Castor and John Does 1-5 alleging civil rights violations and other claims.

Gonzalez is a current inmate at the Riverside Correctional Facility in Philadelphia, according to this complaint. He alleges that on July 16, 2021, he witnessed another inmate being assaulted by the defendant correctional officers.

He further alleges that as he attempted to break up the assault, Felts grabbed him and threw him to the ground while the other officers kicked and stomped him in the head. Gonzalez alleges he was taken to an unknown area in the facility and left handcuffed until he regained consciousness. He claims he suffered a broken nose, broken ribs and a head laceration which required treatment at Nazareth Hospital.

Gonzalez also claims the City of Philadelphia has a history of correctional officer abuses of inmates dating back to 2014.

Gonzalez seeks monetary relief of more than $150,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Henry George of The Law Office of Gregory J. Pagano PC in Philadelphia.
