SCRANTON — A golfer alleges a hazardous golf cart route at the Poconos at Big Ridge led to his crash and injuries.

Jason Cooper and Natalie Cooper filed a complaint Jan. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania against Middle Smithfield Township individually and doing business as Country Club of the Poconos at Big Ridge alleging negligence.

According to the Coppers' complaint, Jason Cooper was golfing at the defendant's golf course in Monroe County on Oct. 22, 2020. They claim that as he was operating one of the golf carts, he followed the guide ropes to move closer to where his ball had landed when the cart suddenly began to fishtail out of control, "violently" smash into a tree and cause him to suffer debilitating injuries.

The plaintiffs allege the guide ropes installed by the defendants had been installed down a steep embankment that was covered with wet leaves, covered with slick stone and which led directly to a wooded knoll. They further allege the defendants' negligence for the unreasonably hazardous designated golf course route.

They are represented by Ryan Michaleski of Ostroff Law PC in Blue Bell.
