PITTSBURGH — A worker at an American Airlines facility located at the Pittsburgh International Airport alleges a defective hydraulic machine caused his spine fracture.

Louis Battisi and Anna Maria Battisi filed a complaint April 22 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Test-Fuchs Corporation alleging liability, negligence and other claims.

Louis Battisi was working for the American Airlines facility at the Pittsburgh International Airport on July 1, 2020, according to the plaintiffs' complaint. The plaintiffs claim that he and another worker were using a Test-Fuchs hydraulic ground power unit with four hoses connected between the supply and return of the machine and a valve located in between.

The plaintiffs allege that when Battisi opened the valve, one of the hoses ruptured and caused "skydrol fluid" to spray over a large area. They further allege Battisi slipped on the coating on the floor, fell and struck his back and head.

The Battisis allege the hydraulic hose and hydraulic power ground unit were defective and that the unit was not properly labeled and did not have proper warnings regarding the use of the hoses and the dangers of using the incorrectly rated hose. They claim Battisi suffered a thoracic spine fracture which required hospitalization and surgery as well as suffered lost wages.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by Carl Schiffman and Daniel Schiffman of The Schiffman Firm LLC in Pittsburgh.
