Expanding its footprint into New England, Fox Rothschild LLP is pleased to announce the opening of its Boston office through the addition of a distinguished group of intellectual property lawyers and professionals led by partner Pete Corless, effective May 2.

The firm’s office is located in Boston’s Financial District at 33 Arch Street and will also be home to Kirsten White, a partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment Department who has worked remotely in Massachusetts since joining the firm in early 2021.
Corless, along with Nicholas A. Zachariades, Ph.D., (counsel), Joohee Lee, Ph.D. (associate) and Michael Mattoni, Ph.D. (patent agent), have extensive experience in patent procurement, prosecution and portfolio management as well as investor diligences and validity and infringement assessments involving pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, biotechnology, medical devices and other mechanical and electromechanical innovations. Clients include public and private life sciences companies; preeminent academic institutions; Global 1000 companies in the manufacturing, chemical and pharmaceutical industries; and medtech companies.

A former synthetic organic chemist for E.I. DuPont de Nemours Co., Medical Products Department (later the DuPont Pharmaceutical Company), Corless is passionate about the science in his work and prepares, prosecutes and manages extensive patent and trademark portfolios on behalf of companies and academic institutions located throughout the United States, Asia and Europe.
Zachariades, who holds a doctoral degree in cellular immunology/virology from Emory University, has more than 18 years of experience in patent drafting, patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate, validity and invalidity opinions, patentability options, infringement options, licensing, due diligence and patentability assessments in cutting-edge biomedical technologies for major U.S. universities, research institutes, startups, large and medium-sized U.S. companies and foreign corporations. He has a diverse technological background with patent experience in CAR-T cells; CAR-NK cells; gene-editing complexes; CRISPR/Cas; virology; immunology; RNA and DNA-based therapeutics; regenerative medicine; stem cells; stem cell therapeutics; genetics; molecular genetics; plant genetics; genetically modified plants; molecular immunology; bioinformatics; biochip arrays; DNA and protein chips; and pharmaceutical and small molecules.
Lee holds a doctoral degree in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University and completed her post-doctoral research in the Department of Chemistry at Yale University. Her areas of focus as a patent attorney include chemistry, biochemistry, fuel cells, batteries, materials science, chemical devices, chemical engineering, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
Mattoni earned his doctoral degree in materials engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He is experienced in a variety of technology areas, including mechanical, electrical and medical devices; metallurgical compositions; functional coatings; energy storage; software; and structural materials, among other areas.
The group joins Fox from Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C.
