PITTSBURGH — The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh alleges a developer's failure to fix a water line caused more than $300,000 in damage to their property.

Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh filed a complaint May 19 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Highwoods Properties Inc., alleging negligence.

A water line owned by Highwoods and located on PPG Place on the Boulevard in the Allies in Pittsburgh failed on Nov. 24, 2019, according to the plaintiff's complaint. The Catholic Diocese alleges that the pipe caused a water leak and damaged their property located on the Boulevard of the Allies.

Specifically, the Diocese alleges the water infiltration caused significant damage of their personal property items and required removal and installation of new floors as well as restoration and repair work in excess of $350,000. The plaintiff alleges Highwoods' negligence in failing to inspect or perform preventive maintenance on the pipe and failing to install a shutoff valve for the water lines. The Diocese also alleges Highwoods did not properly train its employees or contractors.

The plaintiff seeks monetary relief of more than $350,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Joni Mangino and Gregory Scheuring of Zimmer Kunz PLLC in Pittsburgh.
