PITTSBURGH — A woman alleges an unsecured coffee cup lid at a McDonald's drive-thru caused her to suffer burns on her arms and hands.

Billie Dunn filed a complaint May 25 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Istore Global LLC alleging negligence and strict liability.

Dunn, according to her complaint, was at the McDonald's on Main Street in Burgettstown owned and operated by the defendants on March 5, 2022. She claims while going through the drive-thru, hot coffee spilled onto her hands and arms and caused her to suffer "severe" burns.

Dunn alleges the defendant's negligence for failing to safely handle the coffee, failing to secure the lid and for failing to inspect the coffee before handing it to her when it was prone to spillage. She further alleges the defendant failed to correct a dangerous and hazardous condition. Dunn claims as a result of her injuries she suffered scarring, cosmetic disfigurements and incurred medical expenses.

Dunn seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000 and all other just relief. She is represented by Swartz Culleton PC in Pittsburgh.
