PITTSBURGH — A woman alleges she was raped by a maintenance worker at a Residence Inn in Pittsburgh who was hired despite being a convicted felon.
A plaintiff filed a complaint in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Residence Inn By Marriott, Inc., doing business as Residence Inn By Marriott Pittsburgh North Shore, alleging negligence.
The plaintiff, according to her complaint, checked into the Residence Inn Extended Stay By Marriott on the North Shore in Pittsburgh on July 23, 2020. She alleges that on July 26, 2020, while walking around the pool, a Residence Inn maintenance worker asked if she needed more dish soap in her room and agreed to bring it up to her room.
According to the suit, when the maintenance worker arrived to drop off the soap, he entered the room to also address an issue with the cooling unit. The plaintiff claims that while in the room, the maintenance worker raped her and fled the hotel before police arrived.
She further claims in her suit that the maintenance worker was arrested several days later and pled guilty to reckless endangerment, indecent exposure and simple assault. The plaintiff alleges that the maintenance worker had a "lengthy and serious" criminal history including being convicted of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of a 15-year-old girl as well as other felonies.
The plaintiff seeks monetary relief, interest, rial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Robert Daley and Kirstin Kennedy of Robert Peirce & Associates PC in Pittsburgh.
