PITTSBURGH — A woman alleges she suffered severe burns to her face during a laser hair removal treatment at a spa in Wexford.

Daytona Montgomery filed a complaint June 28 in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County against Premier Laser Spa of Pittsburgh LLC doing business as LightRX Face & Body, alleging negligence.

According to her complaint, Montgomery was at the LightRX Face & Body spa in Wexford on Aug. 1, 2020, for a laser hair removal treatment. She claims the procedure was done by a "layperson" who caused severe burns to her face. Montgomery alleges the defendant's negligence for failing to have the laser hair removal equipment under proper and adequate control and not operating the laser in a safe manner, including not stopping the procedure once she was burned.

She also alleges the defendant was negligent for entrusting the laser hair removal equipment to its employee without proper training and for its failure to hire qualified employees. Montgomery claims the defendant did not properly monitor, supervise and train its employees and failed to warn her of the dangers of the equipment. She also claims she suffered lost earnings, scarring and incurred medical care expenses as a result of the defendant's negligence.

Montgomery seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Adam Shorr of Swartz Culleton PC in Pittsburgh.
