PHILADELPHIA — A former legal assistant at a law firm in Allentown claims she was fired due to her disability.

Virginia Borhi filed a complaint Aug. 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against Tsarouhis Law Group alleging disability discrimination.

According to her complaint, Borhi worked as a legal assistant at Tsarouhis Law from Oct. 13 through Oct. 21, 2020. She claims in 2009, she was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and depression and on her first day of work, requested an accommodation for sufficient time for her training due to her disabilities.

Borhi alleges a week after she began work, Demetrios Tsarouhis stated in an aggressive tone that she needed to "learn the job quicker." She alleges that Tsarouhis also humiliated her in front of her colleagues by criticizing her and demanding she redo her work.

Borhi alleges after the encounter with Tsarouhis, she requested to take the remainder of the day off due to her exacerbated anxiety symptoms and was told that if she left to go home, she would be terminated. She claims the defendant discriminated and retaliated against her due to her disability in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act.

Borhi seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Sidney Gold of Sidney L. Gold & Associates PC in Philadelphia.
