PHILADELPHIA — A School District of Philadelphia employee alleges he faced a hostile work environment due to being an African American male.

Leroy Williams filed a complaint Aug. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against School District of Philadelphia alleging civil rights violations.

Williams began working for the School District of Philadelphia in November of 1993, according to his complaint. He alleges that a Caucasian female co-worker filed a false and racially motivated claim of sexual harassment against him on Dec. 1, 2020.

Williams claims the co-worker had mental issues and "numerous performance deficiencies" and that her false allegations caused him to be placed on suspension, during which he had to work in a windowless room with poor ventilation known as the "rubber room."

Williams alleges he suffered a hostile work environment and that his Caucasian fellow employees were treated in a "more favorable manner." He also alleges he suffered humiliation, lost pay and other damages.

Williams seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Attorney Wayne Ely in Richboro.
