Duane Morris is pleased to announce that seven of its intellectual property attorneys have been recognized by World Trademark Review 1000 2023—The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals.

Additionally, the Intellectual Property Practice Group is recognized in Pennsylvania as a recommended firm, in New York for Enforcement and Litigation and Prosecution and Strategy, and in California for Prosecution and Strategy.

WTR 1000 writes:

“Over many years, the trademark team at Duane Morris have provided outstanding levels of service. The whole team is extremely professional, approachable and responsive. We would not hesitate to recommend the firm to colleagues and foreign associates for its quality of advice, service and pragmatic approach.” Chairing the Trademark, Copyright, Entertainment and Advertising Practice Group is Nicole McLaughlin, who provides the full range of trademark services to her clientele. She has especially deep experience with all facets of enforcement and is a keen and strategic caretaker of portfolios. Another skilled portfolio manager is Christiane Schuman Campbell. “Christi has always impressed me with her ability to get to the crux of issues very quickly. She is generous with her time, patient with clients unfamiliar with the US trademark system, and her response speed is about the fastest in the industry. She is also commercially savvy and can be counted on to provide very clear reasoning to guide clients to well-informed decisions, whilst being realistic about outcomes. Above all, she is a genuine pleasure to work with. I have recommended her to countless folks in my industry who need strategic, industry-specific advice. She understands the law, but she also appreciates business needs and delivers a bespoke strategy to meet them.” On the contentious side, David Wolfsohn has a commanding insight of litigation strategy, but also deep understanding of the legal and commercial issues at stake in trademark battles.

Managing nearly 23,000 trademarks over 200 jurisdictions, the IP team at Duane Morris represents some of the world’s most famous brands. Trademark chair Mark Lerner advises on the full range of trademark issues to patrons, including RB Health and publishing company Meredith Corporation, for both of which he has advised on prosecution and enforcement issues. A well-known client is the Book of the Month Club, for which he successfully challenged the use of ‘Book of the Month’ in another company’s advertising. Lerner’s work has won the enthusiastic recommendation of clients: “I consider Mark a true mentor when it comes to the world of trademarks. Without a doubt, Mark's greatest attribute is his timely responsiveness to my questions and his willingness to take the time to teach, not just do. I can always count on Mark and his team to provide superior counsel regarding our trademark issues. Truly, I cannot say enough good things about Mark and the folks at Duane Morris.”

Duane Morris maintains an expansive trademark, copyright, entertainment and advertising practice, enabling it to advise on brands holistically. The firm is responsible for 23,000 trademarks globally and acts for 1,700-plus clients of all sizes, types and industry backgrounds. Helping the set to shine on the West Coast, San Diego-based Michelle Donovan comes in for vocal praise: “Michelle is a fantastic IP lawyer who assimilates complex information quickly and is extremely efficient in her approach. She’s unflappable and a fierce litigator who delivers quality advice and a timely service across the full range of IP services – and does so at reasonable rates.” Another source adds: “For many years I have relied on Michelle to establish and defend our trademarks and identity, both domestically and internationally. She’s an amazing lawyer who misses nothing. She explains things clearly, is very cost conscious and has an excellent foreign network. Thanks to her, our trademarks are some of our strongest assets.” A veteran IP protector with well-developed advisory, trial and transactional skills, Mark Steiner in San Francisco is also highly rated: “Mark is always ahead of trends and has an ability to assess risks without catastrophising, which makes global rights procurement and enforcement manageable. He’s a key strategic adviser with an in-depth understanding of underlying technology and his clients’ overall go-to-market strategy, which is so vital when protecting trademarks in the world of technology.” Nearby in Palo Alto, Jennifer Lantz further elevates the practice thanks to her dual prosecution and litigation expertise. She does a fantastic job helping rapidly expanding brands and resolving difficult disputes.
