Armstrong Teasdale has appointed Partner Edward (Ted) F. Behm, Jr. to the role of Philadelphia Office Managing Attorney, effective Aug. 23, 2023. Behm, who joined the firm’s intellectual property practice in 2019, has substantial experience in all aspects of IP practice.
Office managing attorneys are charged with driving growth and success in coordination with the firm’s overall strategic vision as determined by firmwide leadership.
“Ted has consistently demonstrated leadership and innovation in the IP practice, and I look forward to him bringing that outside-the-box thinking to his role as Office Managing Attorney,” said Managing Partner Patrick Rasche. “Ted has been instrumental in advancing our biotech practice and leading efforts to grow our IP practice along the I-95 corridor. In this role, he will continue that focus, supporting both the future of the firm and the future of our clients’ business involving groundbreaking developments in therapeutics.”
Behm’s broad IP knowledge includes the preparation and prosecution of domestic and foreign patents, trademarks and copyrights; the litigation of patent, trademark, trade dress, trade secret, copyright, domain name and contractual matters; and the counseling of clients in intellectual property opinion, transactional, and capitalization and acquisition matters. Behm has litigated in over a dozen jurisdictions, including various appellate courts, and focuses on developing pre-litigation strategies to ensure the clients’ goals are met.
Further, Behm has significant experience representing clients in reexamination, reissue, and Inter Partes review proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Behm also counsels both established and startup companies in all phases of intellectual property-related transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, IP valuations and fundraising strategies.
In addition to his national legal practice, Behm co-leads the firm’s Biotechnology practice as well as the NextGen resource group. He was also chair of the patent practice at a prior law firm. Behm is a member of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Association and the International Trademark Association (INTA), and is active in supporting the firm’s recruiting and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
