PHILADELPHIA — A former Amtrak engineer alleges he was terminated for reporting mismanagement and safety issues on rail line projects.

Bryan Hager filed a complaint Sept. 12 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania against National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as Amtrak, alleging violation of the Pennsylvania Whistleblower Law and other claims.

According to this complaint, Hager was employed by Amtrak from February 2015 through February 2023. Hager claims that after expressing concerns abut the safety and mismanagement of a project and the violations of Amtrak's engineering requirements, he faced job termination.

He alleges that Amtrak's actions taken against him for reporting wrongdoing violated the Pennsylvania Whistleblower Law. He further alleges the specific project, called the "Thorn Project," involved removing old ties and tracks and installing all new ties and tracks from Thron to Glen on the Paoli rail line. He also alleges prior to his termination, he was made the scapegoat for his supervisor's mismanagement and waste and violations of engineering requirements.

Hager seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Mark Schwartz and Bryn Mawr in Bryn Mawr and Jason Pearlman of The Pearlman Law Firm PLLC in Bala Cynwyd.
