Community Involvement Spotlight, we recognize Robert L. Gawlas’s recent appointment as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Domestic Violence Service Center (DVSC).

DVSC traces its roots back to 1976 when a group of volunteers came together to give battered women and their children hope of a violence-free future. Today, over 45 years later, DVSC now offers emergency shelter and direct services to battered and homeless women across Luzerne and Carbon counties. Their free and confidential services include a 24-hour hotline for information and referrals, crisis intervention and supportive counseling. For women and children whose lives have been so tragically altered by violence, DVSC provides safety, empowerment and self-sufficiency. Every day, they work toward the elimination of domestic violence.
